Coming from a country where there are more than 100 languages spoken, learning to read, write and speak more than three languages was not uncommon to me. Hence, growing up, I wasn’t surprised when I chose to learn a foreign language instead of picking a hobby class in school. I was about 12 years old when I was introduced to the French language and in a way, the French culture. After learning the language to score decent grades in high school, I completely lost touch with it for five years until I had my own Netflix account. That’s right, Netflix plays an important role in my journey of language learning and brings back the joy I first experienced in school!

French

Recently, I started the show ‘Emily in Paris’ on Netflix and as per habit, I did not change my language settings to English. Many parts are filmed in English because the protagonist of the show is an American woman that moves to Paris for work and is not familiar with the local dialect at first. They have shown her journey in the city from someone who did not know French at all, to falling in love with the language, place and people so much that she did not move back to Chicago when she had the chance to and made Paris her home permanently.

While I have an on-and-off relationship with the language myself, I have never given up on it much like Emily (the protagonist). Even though I struggle to keep up with my daily lessons on Duo Lingo, I am proud of the fact that I am on my 154th day of the streak on the App, which essentially means that I have been learning the language every day for the past 154 days.

Spanish

During the covid lockdown, like most people in the world, I consumed A LOT of content. I finished all seasons of ‘Narcos’ and ‘Money Heist‘ (both in Spanish) and this reignited the spark of joy in me again. I began my short journey of learning Spanish for a brief period of three months during the lockdown. Today, I might mix up many phrases in both French and Spanish, but I am also someone who can fluently speak, read and write four Indian languages and figure my way through two foreign languages (with Netflix and Duo Lingo’s help, of course!)

I hope I can add plenty more to this list in the coming years because the journey of language learning through Netflix has by far been extremely rewarding!

Studies have shown that circuit training provides many benefits such as muscular endurance, betters the health of the heart, increases strength, and extremely time efficient. Before we dive into some of the circuit training exercises provided at both gym locations (Mississauga & Brampton), lets meet the dream team: Jessie & Matt (Founders of PSB).  Both of whom are proud graduates of PSB, Jessie bringing 7 years of experience as a fitness instructor at Goodlife Fitness. Matt has been a certified personal trainer for the past 5 years with an impressive portfolio.

What is Circuit Training?

Circuit Training consists of at least five different exercises or more that are done consecutively with short break periods in between each set of exercises. Circuit training can also be done with weights for those that know what they are doing or without for those looking to get into circuit training.

Why Circuit Training?

Jessie & Matt know the exact pressures that many of you might be facing with schooling and work. They were also once in your shoes, but they realized that having a well-balanced work and fitness schedule can be quite difficult at times. Therefore, after some theory crafting and years of experience…they have perfected the: Full Body Circuit Training. Ranging from Basic (created for the casual gym goers with a busy lifestyle), Balanced, and Advanced (recommended for those trying to achieve certain fitness goals).

New to Circuit Training?

If all this sounds a little overwhelming for you or perhaps you have never heard of this form of training, please lay all your worries at bay. The purpose of circuit training is essentially to improve your overall cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength endurance. You might be wondering “how on earth is that possible in 30-45 minutes ?!”. Well, due to an elevated heart rate during most of the training with short rest periods and all the muscles of the body working continuously, this results in insane amounts of calories being burned in no time! In addition, many of the exercises in the circuit training are customizable. For example, if you feel more satisfied doing push-ups rather than sit-ups; this is customizable if there are enough exercises covering the body.

**Take 15 second rest after each exercise and rest for 2.5s once completed each circuit**

**No rest until the end of the first circuit completion**

PSB café is opening on HMC and Davis campus, and is introducing Sheridan’s first Italian Pasta Bar! Healthy food options at Sheridan HMC and Davis can be hard to find. Our pasta bar will be a mix n’ match style eatery with dine-in and take-out options! Customers choose their own meal; you choose your size, pasta type, sauce, meat and/or vegetables. For the health-conscious consumer, we understand the need for not just healthy food but for a variety of choices. Making healthier choices doesn’t mean you need to skimp on flavor.

Students don’t always have time or transportation to leave campus for food. Breaks in between classes are short! Students have been asking for healthy food options at Sheridan HMC and Davis campuses. We offer fast service that doesn’t take away from the quality of your meal.  Our on-campus location makes it convenient for part-time and full-time students who are on the go or looking for a place to park yourself.  Our café includes campus Wi-Fi, so you’re always connected! Likewise, we offer charging stations at tables and bars you can turn our café into your very own study space. Our intimate sit-down space includes 4 tables and 8 bar stools, an ideal area to eat, study or socialize with your peers.
