Food for Amor

Throughout the ages, food has taken many forms and gone through countless iterations. Hand in Hand so has the art of serving. Just a few thousand years ago, the Chinese were the first to create a separate physical unit to barter food. In the year 1765 ,the first restuarent is opened by a Parisian Named Boulanger. An establishment on rue des Poulies, near the Louvre, serving mostly bouillons ,i.e, “restorative broths”.  Now, just a few hundred years in we have turned the food industry to a multi trillion dollar turnover industry . The entire world has leaped into a future where food has become a fast moving product with tons of it being wasted on one end and several million people starving on the other end for it. But the industry grows.

The debate on what and who is the next biggest invention to rock the food industry is always underway. To scrutinize and see what are the recent most industry changing inventions, one would always go down the road of street food, Fast food joints, Self serve AI based restaurents, Deliver-in services etc. But for the last decade or so , the hunger for a much faster and efficient way to run a restuarent is growing. Robotics have taken a huge forward to cut down human resource wastage but at the same time putting millions of jobs at risk. To talk of teleportation, until now as a race we have only achieved this feat in a quantum level, so a few hundred years delay can still be expected on that. So the question remains what is the next best invention for the food industry to revolutionize?

The change in food has begun already

‘Food is an expression of love’, a very commonly heard but lightly taken phrase. But this single sentence might be changing how you view restuarents forever. Today, the world is slowly stepping away from Mcdonalds and into the world of client service. More and more companies are taking steps towards providing customers a more Welcoming and warming experience rather a robotic one such as your average Mcdonalds today. Luxury brand – Tiffany & co have opened Petrossian and Blue Box Cafe . Two restaurents which are quickly gaining traction due to aesthetic and top notch service. A buffet at events has now turned into chef corner for you to personalize and connect. A bartender’s first skill to master is a smile. The more luxurious Japanese cuisine will call for a Sous chef to fire up your food right at your table.

All of these developments have one common factor- Love and one common denominator – a happy customer.

This is the direction at which the industry has started to lean. So if you are a restaurateur trying to break into the future , this might just be the way. Finding more ways to engage the customer and selling food to create connections. Dont be surprised when Fast food chains dial back into a take away restuarent, the dishes have already started to disappear!
