Did Drake really lose against Kendrick?

As a Drake fan, I will admit that Kendrick overtook him here, but as we all know, the beef doesn’t end there. I’ve been listening to both Drake and Kendrick for the past few years, and I actually enjoy what they’ve both been putting out. Personally, though, I’d say I enjoy Drake’s music more.

As most of us have heard, the back and forth between the 6ix God and Kung Fu Kenny has been quite obvious. It might’ve seemed unusual to a lot of people after what Kendrick did to Drake, but there’s been a lot of sneak dissing between the two for quite some time. “First Person Shooter” gave Kendrick a chance to put himself out there, and whatever he said on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That” was quite a start.

The origins of this beef date back to 2013, just after Kendrick did a verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” also infamously known as the “Control Verse” in which some of his lines basically meant that he (Kendrick) is different from others and holds a superior position while literally name dropping each one of them. Drake, being Drake, took the lyrics personally, and ever since, their relationship has been rocky.

If you’re a Drake fan, you probably know that sneak dissing is one of his strong suits, but I’d say that when it comes to battling other rappers, Drake often seems weaker. Talking about his beef with Pusha-T, Drake was seen taking a step back when Pusha-T revealed that he (Drake) had a son. Also, I’m not ignoring the fact that he won against Meek Mill, but again, between Meek Mill and Drake, the winner was pretty obvious. In this case, Kendrick was clearly a much stronger opponent for Drake.

If we zoom out a little and look at this beef, it seems like Kendrick was just waiting for Drake to respond to his verse on “Like That,” and guess what? DJ Akademiks said in an interview that Drake didn’t even need to respond to “Like That” because responding would only put him in a defensive position, and that’s exactly what happened.

As much as I hate to admit it, it was quite a struggle for Drizzy to keep up with Kenny. However, I have to say that “Family Matters” is way better than “Not Like Us,” and it deserves more attention. It’s one of the best diss songs of our generation.

So, to answer the question: Yes, Drake took an L. It was hard for me to digest what happened, but again, you win some, you lose some. After all, we got some good music from both artists, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
