The Creative Process Behind Some Love Lost – Fashion, Acting, and Filmmaking on an 8mm Reel

In 2022, I had the chance to work on Some Love Lost, an 8mm short film for Harkat Film Studios’ festival in Mumbai. I took on two roles: fashion stylist and one of the lead actors. This project was one of the most exciting experiences of my career.

Storyline of Some Love Lost

The film follows a young boy searching for love in Mumbai. He meets different girls, each with a unique personality. Every time he thinks he has found love, something goes wrong. By the end of the day, he is left alone, reflecting on the connections he lost. This simple story is told without dialogue, focusing on emotions and expressions.

Curating Looks for the Film

As the stylist, I had to design outfits that fit each character’s personality. Since there were no words, the clothing had to speak for itself. Mumbai’s lively atmosphere inspired me to choose bold patterns and vibrant colours. I made sure each outfit matched the film’s look and mood.

Working with professionals from the film industry helped me improve my skills. I learned how to use fashion to tell a story. This experience pushed me to think about every detail, from fabrics to colours, and how they appeared on camera.

Acting Without Words

Acting without dialogue was a new and exciting challenge. Since there were no retakes, I had to get everything right the first time. Every expression and movement needed to be precise. The director taught me how to show emotions with small gestures. It wasn’t easy, but I loved the challenge. I learned how important body language and facial expressions are in acting. The experience gave me a deeper understanding of storytelling through acting.

Filming in Mumbai

Mumbai, the city of dreams and the heart of Bollywood became a character in Some Love Lost. From its bustling streets to quiet corners, each location added life to our film. Growing up here, I’ve always felt the city’s pulse, and filming in its vibrant energy was like capturing a piece of home.

Every day brought new challenges, from styling characters in the chaos to acting in a city that never stands still. Mumbai wasn’t just a backdrop; it was the soul of our story, making the experience unforgettable.

Working with Industry Professionals

One of the greatest highlights of working on Some Love Lost was the opportunity to collaborate with experienced industry professionals. The directors, DOP, and production crew had worked on large-scale productions for Netflix and other OTT platforms. Their level of expertise, professionalism, and creative vision made this project a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Working with such a seasoned team pushed me to bring my A-game, both as a stylist and an actor. Their feedback, guidance, and support were invaluable, and I am grateful for the chance to learn from them. This experience taught me a lot about both the fashion and film industries, and I left the project feeling more inspired than ever.
